The Mariners have designated 28-year old righty swinging outfielder Mike Wilson for assignment. Wilson played in 8 games for the Mariners last year and he was 4 for 27 (.148 avg, .364 OPS) with 0 runs scored, 0 homers and 3 RBIs. He also played in 87 games in AAA-ball last year and he was 111 of 335 (.331 avg, .973 OPS) with 73 runs scored, 16 homers, 49 RBIs and 5 stolen bases. The Mariners won’t likely miss Wilson too much as they have a lot of outfielders on the roster right now. His roster spot was needed for recently signed righty reliever Shawn Camp.

UPDATE: (2/18/2012) - Mike Wilson has cleared waivers and he has accepted an outright assignment to AAA. He will compete for a backup job in the Mariners’ outfield this spring.
