Ichiro Suzuki is not letting his teammates on the Seattle Mariners drag him down

36-year old lefty swinging RF Ichiro Suzuki keeps rolling along for the Mariners. He has played in 131 games this season for the Mariners and he is 167 of 542 (.308 avg, .751 OPS) with 59 runs scored, 5 homers, 34 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. This will be his second season in a row with less than 100 runs scored unless he can get 41 of them the rest of the way which is doubtful. He scored 100+ runs in each of his first 8 years with the Mariners. Ichiro will need 33 hits the rest of the season, which he is more than capable of, to have at least 200 hits in each of his first ten years in the majors which is a awesome feat. Ichiro has now played in 1,557 games in his 10 years with the Mariners and he is 2,197 of 6,641 (.331 avg, .807 OPS) with 1,032 runs scored, 89 homers, 549 RBIs and 375 stolen bases.

Felix Hernandez continues to pitch well for the Seattle Mariners

24-year old righty starting pitcher Felix Hernandez refuses to let his team’s awful play ruin his year. He has started 28 games for the Mariners this year and he is 10-10 with a 2.47 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. He has only allowed 174 hits while whiffing 192 batters in 204 1/3 innings this year for the Mariners. He deserves Cy Young Award consideration but he won’t get many votes while sporting a .500 record. He has now pitched in 166 games (all starts) in his career with the Mariners and he is 68-51 with a 3.27 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP. Hernandez became the 4th youngest pitcher in major league history last night to record 1,000 career strikeouts. He now has 1,002 of them in 1109 1/3 innings pitched.

Chone Figgins is finally showing signs of life in August for the Seattle Mariners

I guess it’s better late than never for Chone Figgins as he is hitting the ball really well in August. Figgins is 17 of 49 (.347 avg, .804 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 4 RBIs and 9 stolen bases so far in August. Figgins’ overall numbers are still not looking good for the year though. He has played in 118 games for the Mariners this year and he is 108 of 437 (.247 avg, .632 OPS) with 48 runs scored, 1 homer and 29 RBIs. The Mariners expected way more out of Figgins who has been a huge disappointment for them this year.

The Mariners have signed 27-year old lefty swinging 2B/SS Tug Hulett to a minor league deal. Hulett played in 86 games in AAA-ball this year for the Red Sox and he was 57 of 284 (.201 avg, .659 OPS) with 38 runs scored, 4 homers, 29 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. He has played in 45 games in parts of two years in the majors (2008 with Seattle being one of them) and he is 13 of 67 (.194 avg, .524 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 3 RBIs. The Mariners might give Hulett a chance in September if he shows anything in the minors in the next two weeks.

Brandon League has been solid for the Seattle Mariners this year

There were a lot of skeptics when the Mariners traded Brandon Morrow to the Blue Jays for Brandon League, but, League has pitched well this season for the Mariners. League has pitched in 52 games (0 starts) for the Mariners this year and he is 8-6 with 2 saves, a 3.10 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP. He has only given up 49 hits in 58 innings so far this year for the Mariners. He could be the closer of the future for the Mariners if David Aardsma continues to struggle.
