Erik Bedard officially ruled out for the year for the Seattle Mariners
Erik Bedard’s first season in Seattle has ended as it has been revealed that he has a torn labrum and a cyst in his left shoulder. He will need surgery that will likely cause him to miss at least half of the 2009 season. Bedard started 15 games for the Mariners in 2008 and he was 6-4 with a 3.67 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. Those numbers aren’t bad but when one considers what the Mariners gave up for him then they don’t look too good. Outfielder Adam Jones and pitchers George Sherrill, Chris Tillman, Tony Butler and Kam Mackolio was the ransom that the Orioles got for Bedard. Hindsight is always 20/20 and it appears that the Orioles’ GM should be arrested for robbery in this trade.
