Brandon Morrow has been dominating for the Seattle Mariners this season

Improved control has made Brandon Morrow a dominant reliever for the Mariners. Morrow has replaced the injured J.J. Putz as the Mariners’ closer and he’s been lights out. Morrow has pitched in 30 games for the Mariners this season and he is 1-1 with 6 saves, a 0.67 ERA and a 0.79 WHIP. He has only allowed 13 hits in 26.2 innings this season for the Mariners while whiffing 37 batters. But the key to his success has been his improved control as he has only walked 8 batters this season. As long as he keeps throwing strikes Morrow will be a dominant reliever for the Mariners.

Man its good to see a bright spot in the Mariner’s Organization. This seasons was touted to be a big deal and had so much potential but its been the exact opposite. As a huge Mariners fan (through thick and thin) that’s relocated to Australia from Seattle, I don’t get as many updates as I used to. But when I read things like this, it makes me hopeful that maybe all the bad things won’t last forever. All I can say is, among other things, thank God Bavasi is gone. Maybe we’ll get someone who’ll actually chase some talent.

If the Mariners put together a good plan and quit wasting money on journeyman type starting pitchers the future could be bright for them. Morrow is downright nasty and they should just let him team up with J.J. Putz to give the Mariners a dominant bullpen the rest of the way. Maybe they can convert Morrow into a starting pitcher next season but they should leave him alone for now.
