The Adam Jones era is about to take off for the Seattle Mariners
The Mariners appear willing to decline their team option for Jose Guillen and hand the starting job in right field to Adam Jones. Jones has looked somewhat overmatched in his early major league career but in fairness to him he’s never got consistent playing time. Jones has played in 73 games in his career and he is 32 for 139 (.230 avg, .620 OPS) with 22 runs scored, 3 homers and 12 RBIs. He needs to make more contact to take advantage of his power and speed combo as he has already whiffed a stunning 43 times in 139 at bats. Jones will be an upgrade on Guillen defensively as he’s a natural center fielder but Guillen’s throwing arm and power will be missed unless Jones lives up to his vast potential in 2008.
