The Mariners have placed Cha Seung Baek on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.  He has started 11 games this season for the Mariners and he’s 3-3 with a 5.74 ERA and a 1.71 WHIP.  He has pitched 64.1 innings this season and he’s allowed 78 hits, walked 13 batters and he has whiffed 46.  The Mariners will replace Baek in the rotation with lefty Ryan Feierbend.  Feierbend has had a rough time so far with the Mariners.  He has pitched in 4 games (3 starts) and he is 1-2 with a 8.20 ERA and a 1.66 WHIP so far this season with the Mariners.  In 18.2 innings, he has allowed 23 hits, 5 homers, walked 8 batters and whiffed 10.

When J.J. Putz comes into the ballgame for the Seattle Mariners it’s been GAME OVER as he’s converted all 19 of his save opportunities this season!  In 29 games, Putz has a 1.19 ERA and a 0.66 WHIP as he’s been virtually unhittable this season.  In 30.1 innings, Putz has allowed only 14 hits, walked 6 batters and whiffed 32.  If the Mariners start getting better starting pitching they will have a chance at making the playoffs because they have good hitting and Putz at the end of games to slam the door shut.

The Seattle Mariners are 9-4 the last two weeks as they’ve outscored the opposition 85-71.  The Mariners are really swinging the bats well and that has made up for some poor pitching so far this season.  The Mariners enter this week with a 33-26 record which has them in 2nd place in the American League West, 4.5 games behind the Angels.
