If Jose Guillen stays healthy look out

Blogged under Front Page, Bloglockers, Positional Preview for Season by chinmusic on Thursday 8 March 2007 at 5:13 pm

30 year old Jose Guillen was injured most of last season but he’s been very good when healthy the last few seasons and the Mariners are banking that he will return to health in 2007.  In 2006 he only played in 60 games and he hit only .216 with 9 homers, 40 RBIs and a .674 OPS.  In the three seasons previous to last year (2003-2005) Guillen hit .295 with an average of 82 runs scored, 27.3 homers and 88.7 RBIs per season.  He played in 68 games in RF last season and he made 2 errors while showing outstanding range and he still has a big-time gun for a throwing arm.  Look for Guillen to post solid numbers in Seattle this season if he stays healthy.

Willie Bloomquist or Jeremy Reed will likely back up Guillen in RF.  Bloomquist played in 12 games in RF last year and he didn’t make an error while showing great range.  Reed didn’t play an inning in RF but he’s a good defensive player and could handle the position.
